COLUMBUS, Ohio – The New England Revolution secured another big road win on Saturday night in Columbus, as they took down the Crew in a gritty 2-1 victory. New England left the pitch feeling buoyed, with the final seven games of the season on the horizon and confidence bubbling up after two wins in the last three games.
The term ‘road warriors’ has often been used to describe this Revolution squad, who now own a strong 5-4-5 record away from home. Following a four-game homestand, where New England went 1-3-0, the team was eager to recapture the early-season confidence that made them so formidable on the road.
It was no easy task as the Revs journeyed to Lower.com Field, where the Crew had only lost twice so far this season. New England returned to their road-warrior ways and took a 2-0 lead over Columbus within the first 40 minutes of the match.
“I was really proud of the guys. They really were up for the game, you could tell. It’s a big environment here, one of the best environments in the league – really loud, really intense. I thought our group thrived in that type of environment,” explained head coach Caleb Porter. “It’s our fifth road win and I told the guys before the game that they should be confident going into this game, because they’ve been a very good team on the road.”
This game wasn’t simply about being good on the road; it was also a testament to staying strong when in the lead. The Revolution thwarted Columbus’ attack for 70 minutes before Dániel Gazdag’s 71st-minute goal tested New England’s resolve in the late stages. While the Revs have at times struggled to close out games this season, they showed a lockdown ability on Saturday night.
“One of the main things I told the group in the locker room after the game was, I was really proud of them at 2-1 because they didn’t shrink,” said Porter. “They stayed strong and they dug in.”
It was an exciting night on the attack for the Revolution, as Leo Campana notched his sixth goal of the season off a helper from Luca Langoni in the 25th minute. Less than 15 minutes later, Ignatius Ganago scored his first goal since recently returning from injury. Ganago’s strike came from a perfectly lofted long ball from defender Mamadou Fofana, who placed his pass beyond the Crew defense, paving a path to the net for the Cameroonian attacker.
“The small details make the difference these days and that’s something we need to improve,” said Campana. “Today, we worked our asses off. We worked really hard because we know the gap is closing and we need to perform to get the three points, because it’s the only way to get to a playoff spot. That’s our main goal.”
The Revolution are now eight points back of the playoff line in the East, and with seven games left in 2025, are making a sprint toward late-season glory. They’ll return to Gillette Stadium next weekend to face Charlotte FC and continue their push for the postseason.
The Revs last battled Charlotte in April, when New England walked away with a 1-0 win. With the focus on boosting their 3-8-2 home record, the Revolution will hunt down another triumph in Foxborough over the weekend.
