FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution Under-16 midfielder Isaac Angking and goalkeeper Trey Miller have been selected to play for the MLS Eastern All-Star Team at the Generation adidas Elite Soccer Program (ESP) event in Carson, California from July 26 through August 2. Angking and Miller will travel to Carson to train, play and compete against other talented MLS Academy players from across the United States, as well as an All-Star squad from the Bayern Munich Academy.
ESP’s main annual event is an invitation-only week-long program that gathers the best American U-16 MLS Academy players to compete on the pitch and bond with each other off it. With the help of adidas, the players are immersed in a professional environment in order to create an idea of what it’s like to be a pro and help prepare the players for the hard work it takes to become a professional player.
Academy players from each MLS team that participated in the 2014-15 Generation adidas Cup, where the Revs finished sixth of 16 teams in the Premier Division, are invited to the event and selected based on their performance at the tournament. Angking and Miller will be joined by 52 other MLS Academy players at the event, with the Eastern, Central and Western All-Star Team’s rosters each containing 18 players. All teams will play a total of three games during the week, with the three regional All-Star teams facing each other once while also taking on the All-Star squad from the Bayern Munich Academy.
“We’re extremely proud Isaac and Trey have been invited to this event,” Revolution director of youth development Bryan Scales said. “This is a fantastic opportunity for each of them to play with some of the league’s best young talent, and also get the opportunity to compete against one of the world’s top Academy programs in Bayern Munich.”
A creative midfielder, Angking is entering his third season with the Revolution Academy. While an Under-14 team member the last two seasons, the 15-year-old played the majority of the 2014-15 season with the Under-16 squad, making 27 appearances with the side, scoring six goals and adding six assists. The Providence, R.I. native also made two appearances for the Revs at the Generation adidas Cup, recording one assist in Major League Soccer’s elite youth tournament for U-17 Academy teams.
Angking was called in to a U.S. Under-14 National Team camp in August 2014 – also held in Carson – before being called in for a U.S. Under-15 camp in Bradenton, Fla. in December 2014.
Miller, a goalkeeper from Monson, Mass., is preparing for his fourth season with the Revs Academy. He made 23 appearances for the U-16s in league play last season, recording 12 shutouts and posting a 0.71 goals against average. The 16-year-old also made eight appearances in the Generation adidas Cup, keeping three clean sheets.
Miller was recently in camp with the U.S. Under-16 National Team in June, joining fellow Revolution U-16 players Calvin Aroh, Daniel Jones and Justin Rennicks for the week-long camp in Sunrise, Fla.
