RECENT FORM VS. NEW YORK CITY FC
New England and New York City met earlier this summer at Yankee Stadium, where the Revs were whistled for an MLS record three first-half penalty kicks in a 4-2 loss. Gustavo Bou, who recently returned from injury with a substitute appearance last Sunday and a 90-minute performance on Wednesday, scored both Revolution goals in that match. Sunday's showdown, meanwhile, will be the first at Gillette Stadium since last year's MLS Cup Playoffs, when the Revs lost in a penalty shootout following a 2-2 draw as NYCFC advanced en route to an MLS Cup title.
It was a forgettable month of August for the defending champs, who've gone 1-5-1 in their last seven games, dropping to fourth in the Eastern Conference. Struggles at both ends of the field have plagued NYCFC, but they've been particularly vulnerable defensively in recent weeks, conceding 13 goals in their last six games. Their most recent loss was a midweek setback against last-place D.C. United, falling 2-1 in a home game at Red Bull Arena.
The Revs have also hit something of a rough patch in the late summer, going 0-2-2 in their last four games following Wednesday night's 0-0 draw with Chicago Fire FC. Shut out in four of their last eight games, the Revs need to find their scoring touch as the calendar flips to September, currently sitting one point outside the playoff places in the Eastern Conference with six games remaining.
Sunday's match will close out the Revolution's three-game homestand before heading back on the road for a two-game trip beginning next weekend, as they'll visit the New York Red Bulls (Sept. 10) and Houston Dynamo (Sept. 13) in the span of four days.

The Revs will be sporting their primary kit, “The Liberty.” The bespoke pattern is inspired by Boston’s Freedom Trail, a walking trail through the heart of Boston which passes 16 historical sites from the American Revolution – which gives a nod to the club name. This sleek new look will be paired with blue shorts, conveying a defiant, bold and strong look.
The club is reverting to blue shorts for the first time since 2013 to complement “The Liberty”. This is to convey a bold and strong one-color look, in-keeping with the New England’s defiant spirit while also enabling the new logo the chance to shine in its first time on a kit.
