The Revs claimed an exciting three-point result in stoppage time in a midweek test at New York City FC. It was the Revs’ fourth road win of the season and third in their past four road trips, including victories in D.C., Columbus, and NYC. The Revs seem to have found some confidence on the road after struggling to find wins outside of Gillette Stadium earlier in the season. Now third in the East, a win in Chicago would be a big three points with just 10 matches remaining in the regular season.
New England had a strong summer transfer window, notably adding big names like Jack Harrison and Dániel Gazdag. Since debuting with the Revs in August, Harrison has helped the team find six goals, logging six assists in just seven matches. Gazdag has only been with the Revolution for about a week, and his first Revolution goal came in his second appearance, finding the stoppage-time winner in New York.

Chicago Fire FC tied Inter Miami CF 1-1 at home on Wednesday night, claiming their fourth consecutive draw in league play. While the Fire have failed to find a win since August 19, they also haven’t lost in MLS play since July. Chicago sit just a single point below the Revolution in the Eastern Conference standings and own a strong 7-3-1 home record as they prepare to host New England.
The Fire have been a strong team on both sides of the ball this season, and rank as the third-best defensive team in the East behind New England, allowing just 33 goals. Chicago are also the fourth strongest attacking team in the conference with 44 goals scored. Of those 44 goals, 21 of them have been found at Soldier Field.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution midfielder Carles Gil
Carles Gil has led the charge for New England all season long. He sits at the top of the Revolution’s stats with 10 goals and eight assists – leading the team in both categories. The Revolution captain is also among league leaders in each of those columns as well, but he stands out not just on the scoresheet, but in his playmaking. Gil leads MLS in key passes, with 69 so far this season.
The midfield maestro also leads the league in penalty kick goals, logging his sixth of the season on Wednesday night against New York City FC. The shot brought Gil to 23 career goals from the spot, tied for fifth most in MLS history. It also furthered his scoring streak, logging a goal in each of his past three appearances, including two assists.
Fire forward Robert Lewandowski
Iconic striker Robert Lewandowski joined Chicago after the FIFA World Cup break and has predictably made his mark on the league already. In just nine matches, Lewandowski has scored six goals and logged two assists. The Polish attacker is currently on a streak, scoring in each of his last three appearances while adding two assists.
On the international level, Lewandowski is Poland’s all-time leading goal scorer and owns one of the most decorated careers in the sport. This is the first time New England will face the striker, who will undoubtedly pose a large attacking threat on Sunday.
