Jerry Bengtson called up to Honduras for November friendlies

FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – New England Revolution forward Jerry Bengtson has been called up to represent Honduras during the country’s upcoming friendlies against Brazil and Ecuador.


Honduras, which is currently ranked 34th in the world in the most recent FIFA rankings, will meet 11th-ranked Brazil on Saturday, Nov. 16 at Sun Life Stadium in Miami, before heading to Houston to play 22nd-ranked Ecuador on Tuesday, Nov. 19, at BBVA Compass Stadium.


Bengtson has 39 appearances for Honduras and has scored 18 international goals. Bengtson’s last appearance came on Oct. 15, 2013 in a 2-2 draw against Jamaica, while his last international goal was the game-winning goal in a 1-0 win over Costa Rica on Oct. 11, 2013.

Honduras is one of three CONCACAF teams that has automatically qualified for the 2014 FIFA World Cup by finishing third in the region’s hexagonal qualifying round. Honduras joins the U.S. and Costa Rica as entrants into the World Cup draw, while Mexico, the region’s fourth-place team, will meet New Zealand in a two-game play-in series on Oct. 11 and 20, 2013.
