ATLANTA – Major League Soccer’s hottest striker may well be Adam Buksa, who bagged yet another brace on Sunday afternoon to guide the New England Revolution to a 2-2 draw with Atlanta United FC.

Buksa also had a pair of goals in this past Wednesday night’s 5-1 win over FC Cincinnati in the Lamar Hunt U.S. Open Cup, and the 25-year-old striker has now scored at least once in six straight games in all competitions, totaling eight goals during that stretch. The first five came with his head, but the 6-foot-3 Polish international has also proven deadly on the ground, scoring the last three with his left foot – two from inside the box and one from outside the area.

Sunday’s goals were assisted by Carles Gil and Sebastian Lletget, and that duo in particular has been vital in providing the service for Buksa to provide the finish.

“They are two great players,” Buksa said of Gil and Lletget. “If you look closely at my goals that I’ve scored the last couple of games, most of the assists I believe came from Sebastian and Carles. So, these are the main manufacturers and why I keep scoring. These assists that they’ve delivered and that they’ve been delivering so far are great. For me, they make my life easier in terms of scoring goals.”

Buksa also credited DeJuan Jones, Ema Boateng, Brandon Bye, and Arnór Traustason for boosting the attack, but much of the recognition must also go to Buksa himself, who had plenty of work to do on both of his goals at Mercedes-Benz Stadium. The first, Buksa played a give-and-go with Gil before holding off his defender and finishing through goalkeeper Bobby Shuttleworth’s legs from a tight angle. The second, he chested down Lletget’s chipped pass before pushing his shot into the near upper corner.

“In this particular situation, that was the only way to score a goal, honestly, because the angle was very tight,” Buksa said of his first. “I tried to find this way to score a goal and it worked out. Obviously, you need to be lucky a little bit in this kind of situation, but yeah, that was my idea, how I wanted to finish that situation off.”

Luck has had very little to do with Buksa’s current run of form, which has no doubt kept the attention of the Poland National Team ahead of this winter’s FIFA World Cup in Qatar. Buksa played a key role in helping Poland book a place in the tournament with five goals in qualifying, and he’s doing everything possible to ensure his place on the roster later this year.

But while Buksa admits that playing in a World Cup is “a big, big dream” of his, he also said the best way to prove he belongs is to simply keep performing at the club level week after week.

“There’s many, many months until the first game of the World Cup,” said Buksa. “I think about it and obviously it’s a big, big dream for me to be part of the national team for the World Cup roster. But in order to find myself there, you need to prove game by game that you deserve that spot. So, it’s a long-term goal, which is obviously my goal, but the way to find myself on that roster and in the national team at this time is just keep doing what I’ve been doing so far and don’t think too much about the future in the long-term period.”

So, while Buksa hopes he’ll be there for Poland’s group stage matches at the World Cup against Argentina, Mexico, and Saudi Arabia in November, his focus at the moment is simply on next Saturday’s trip to FC Cincinnati, where he’ll try to make it goals in seven straight games in all competitions.

“Hopefully, there is more to come,” he said.
