FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution’s Under-18 and Under-16 teams were in action last weekend, travelling north of the border to take on the Montreal Impact on Sunday, November 8 at Stade Saputo. The U-18s began the day with a 2-2 draw against their MLS rivals, before the U-16s earned a 3-2 victory to move six points clear at the top of the Northeast Division in Development Academy play.
UNDER-18s
The Under-18s opened up the day with a 2-2 draw against the Montreal Impact, with Justin Rennicks (South Hamilton, Mass.) notching both goals for New England. The Revs took the lead in the 20th minute, when Aaron James (Amherst, Mass.) played a long ball down the right channel for Rennicks to run onto, and the forward beat the Montreal left back, cut inside and found the net from a tight angle to make the score 1-0.
Twelve minutes later, Max Diamond (Hopedale, Mass.) slid a ball behind the Impact defense for Andrew Barrowman (Marshfield, Mass.) on the left wing, allowing Barrowman to drive a low cross into the area that Rennicks met at the near post and finished past the goalkeeper to put the Revs 2-0 up heading into halftime.
Despite a two-goal advantage at the break, the Revs were unable to clinch the full three points after Badreddine Boulajoul found the net for Montreal in the 68th minute to cut the Revs’ lead to 2-1, before Fabrice Mbvouvouma scored the equalizer with eight minutes remaining to see each side claim a share of the points.

UNDER-16s
After being handed their first loss of the season last weekend, the Under-16s bounced back by beating the Montreal Impact 3-2 on Sunday, behind a Gabriel Meireles (Everett, Mass.) hat trick. In the 27th minute, Jose Gonzalez (North Providence, R.I.) won the ball in the midfield and fed Kevin Vang (Cranston, R.I.), who dribbled at the Montreal defense before sliding a ball through for Meireles to finish past the goalkeeper and put the Revs up 1-0.
Montreal equalized just after the halftime break when Olujimi Aribido scored for the home side, but the Revs pulled ahead for good in the 65th minute. Vang was again the creator, taking control of the ball following a spell of possession for the Revs and slipping through Meireles who found the corner, making the score 2-1.
Meireles completed his hat trick with three minutes remaining in the game to take his total for the season up to a team-leading seven. Pierre Spiegel (Amherst, Mass.), who was making just his second appearance while playing up with the U-16s, intercepted a pass in the Impact’s half and played a through ball between Montreal’s center backs for Meireles to latch onto and slam home his finish, giving the Revolution a two-goal cushion. Yohan Le Bourhis pulled a goal back for Montreal in the closing moments but the Revs U-16s held on to close out the 3-2 victory.
