After the New England Revolution’s masterful performance against FC Cincinnati on Sunday afternoon, it’s no surprise that six goals later, two Revolution players find themselves on the MLS Team of the Matchday presented by Audi. With two goals from center back Brayan Ceballos and a hat trick of assists from winger Luca Langoni, there’s no doubt their names belong amongst the week’s best XI for Matchday 4.
The duo kicked off the Revolution’s roaring comeback (in an eventual 6-1 win) in the 25th minute, when Ceballos rose highest to head home Langoni’s free kick to pull the Revs level at 1-1. But that was just the start for the pair of South Americans, who would strike again in first-half stoppage time for another set-piece goal.
Off a corner from Langoni, the Argentinian once again found the head of Ceballos, who nodded home the Revolution’s third goal of the afternoon. The assist capped off a historic day for Langoni, who had already set up Dor Turgeman’s goal in the 31st minute. With three assists in a single half, he became only the second player in club history, joining Lee Nguyen (2017), to accomplish the feat.
“Luca has quality, including his strength to provide those runs from the back, and his speed with or without the ball. One of my tasks, when I came to the club, was how we can get Luca in more of those situations,” head coach Marko Mitrović said after Sunday’s three-point result. “It's not just Luca running behind, it's how well we can time his runs, and how he can also repeat those runs, doing it in the right way at the right time. Today, he was better, but I still believe that Luca can be more threatening from behind with his pace, with and without the ball."
Mitrović has been vocal about wanting attacking aggression from every player on the pitch, and that message was unmistakable in the home opener. Even after Langoni delivered three assists, both he and Mitrović insisted there’s another level to reach. Early on Mitrović defined his coaching style as attack-minded on all ends of the pitch, reflected in Langoni’s repeated helpers, defender Ceballos’ brace, and the six goals coming from five different goalscorers.
For Ceballos, the two goals marked the first multi-goal outing of his career, a milestone he dedicated to his son, who is expected to arrive in the coming days. The Team of the Matchday honors for both players was the cherry on top of a dreamy opener in Foxborough, where Mitrović and the squad proved what they’re capable of in the first win of 2026.
The team now sets their sights on St. Louis CITY SC, taking on the Western Conference side at Energizer Park this coming Saturday, March 21 at 8:30 p.m. ET.
