FLUSHING, N.Y. (September 9, 2026) – The New England Revolution (12-8-4, 40 pts.) scored in second-half stoppage time to earn a 2-1 victory over New York City FC (7-9-8, 29 pts.) on Wednesday night at Citi Field. Revolution captain Carles Gil converted a penalty kick in the 12th minute to open the scoring, before New England newcomer Dániel Gazdag broke a 1-1 tie with the winner in stoppage time to secure New England's third win in the last four away games.

Despite New York City FC setting the early tempo with a strong spell of pressure in the opening 10 minutes, the Revolution opened the scoring 12 minutes into the contest as Gil calmly converted from the penalty spot. Gil helped spark the sequence himself, playing a short corner to winger Jack Harrison before the Englishman whipped a dangerous cross into the box. The delivery ricocheted off the arm of a New York City defender, setting the stage for Gil to bury his league-leading sixth penalty goal into the bottom right corner of the net. The finish marked Gil’s 10th goal of the season, giving him double-digit goals for the fourth time in his MLS career, second most in club annals.

New York City FC pressed for an equalizer after the break and generated two early chances on target, but Matt Turner answered with a pair of sharp reaction saves to keep the hosts off the scoresheet and preserve New England’s advantage. The United States Men’s international ended the night with five saves, with four of those stops coming in the second half.

New England nearly doubled the advantage in the 59th minute. Jackson Yueill, who entered as a first-half substitute for an injured Alhassan Yusuf, headed a Peyton Miller cross on frame, only for NYCFC goalkeeper Matt Freese to parry the chance away. The hosts pulled level 12 minutes later, when Nicolás Fernández slipped in behind the Revolution backline and squared a pass to Brazilian forward Luighi, who guided a first-time finish into the back of the net to make it 1-1.

In the final 20 minutes, the Revolution ramped up the pressure with the reinforcements of Gazdag, Ilay Feingold, Wilson Harris, and Luca Langoni off the bench. The fresh legs paid dividends in second-half stoppage time as Gazdag, making his second appearance for the Revolution, scored his first goal for the club to seal a late victory. Feingold, making his third appearance since returning from a four-month injury absence, whipped in a cross to the middle of the penalty area where Gazdag calmly controlled the ball with his chest before flashing a low finish into the bottom corner.

The Revolution, now 3-1-0 in their last four away matches, will close the four-game road swing on Sunday, September 13 with a trip to face Chicago Fire FC at Soldier Field.
