New England fell 2-1 at the LA Galaxy over the weekend, despite outshooting them 25-7 and hitting the woodwork three times. The Revs went down early after giving up a penalty in the 11th minute, and despite their attacking dominance, couldn’t put a ball in the net until Carles Gil scored his team-leading ninth goal of 2026 in stoppage time. It was the Revs’ first loss after two straight road wins as they continue to play through a four-game road stretch.
The Revs played New York City just over two weeks ago at Gillette Stadium and shared the points in a 1-1 draw. The Revs owned 52.3% of possession over NYC and were able to put seven of their 10 shots on target. While the Revs continue on the road following a loss at LA, they’ll be eager to get back in the win column in Queens.

New York City earned a point as hosts against top-of-the-table Nashville SC over the weekend as they held them off in a scoreless draw. While it was a strong result against a team who have won 16 games so far this season, NYC couldn’t find the net and put just a single shot on target. Although they came out with a point, they are still winless in their last six games (0-2-4).
The Boys in Blue have been a strong side defensively this season, conceding just 31 goals in 23 games. Their defense is third-best in the East, ranking just below New England. At home, New York City have had mixed results, going 4-4-4 through their first 12 games as hosts. While New England have found more confidence on the road recently, they’ve still only found three wins away from Foxborough.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution midfielder Dániel Gazdag
Dániel Gazdag made his first appearance in a Revs jersey on Saturday night in LA, logging 15 minutes against the Galaxy. The midfielder joined the Revolution just over a week ago and could be expected to earn more minutes as he builds chemistry with the squad.
A league veteran, Gazdag is in his sixth MLS season. Through his MLS career, the Hungarian has scored 66 goals and registered 37 assists. With over 100 goal contributions, Gazdag has proven himself as a chance creator and attacking powerhouse with an ability to play multiple different positions across the attack.
New York City goalkeeper Matt Freese
Last time out against New York City FC was a game of goalkeepers, as the top two U.S. Men’s National Team ‘keepers battled it out at Gillette stadium. Both Matt Turner and Freese helped keep the game level with their heroics in the net. For New York City, Freese made five saves on the night, including a double save to deny Carles Gil from the spot.
Freese ranks seventh in saves this season, stopping 80 shots in 23 games. The Pennsylvania native has also earned four clean sheets. As New England look to add to their 37 goals, Freese will be the last line of defense between the posts.

Head coach Marko Mitrović on his takeaways from the first meeting between New England and New York City FC on August 23:
“I respect New York City a lot. I respected them before the game. I think I respect them even more after that game. They are a team that is very well coached and has a lot of quality on the field. When you put those things together, you always have a high level of challenge ahead of you. I also think playing them [on Aug. 23], it puts a lot of certainty in both teams. I feel maybe the players know each other even better than we maybe know what challenges are on the field. I’m looking forward to the game.”
Mitrović on how the roster's depth will help the team through a two-game week:
“Every player helps, not just when it's a stretch like the schedule that we have now, it helps during the whole season because there are always setbacks with injuries. Every player has to be ready to perform when they play. It's great that we have some additions, but also, we are very happy with the guys that we had from the beginning of the season and the work that they put in every day. So, I know that whoever is on the field will be ready to perform for the minutes that they get.”
Midfielder Brooklyn Raines on playing at Citi Field with the unique pitch dimensions:
“For us as a team and for me personally, I think we just approach it the same way as we would any other game. Not too focused on the conditions or anything like that. I think just go out there and do what we've been doing, just sticking together, sticking to our principles. Obviously, like you said, like the field can come into play, but I think as a whole, we're not really worried about that. I think we're just going to go out there and do our thing.”
