CURRENT FORM
New England Revolution
9th in Eastern Conference (1-2-0, 3 pts.)
Last Result | 6-1 win vs. FC Cincinnati
The Revs are riding high after an emphatic 6-1 home-opening victory over FC Cincinnati at Gillette Stadium last weekend. It was the first win of the season for New England, setting the standard high for their 2026 home campaign. It was also a game for the record books, as head coach Marko Mitrović earned his first win with the team, the Revs tied the club record for most goals in a single league game, and they matched their all-time largest margin of victory in MLS play. While the six-goal outing gave New England a boost of confidence heading into Missouri, the emphasis is on sustaining that momentum moving forward.
The six Revolution goals came from five different goal scorers, with defender Brayan Ceballos logging two, and Dor Turgeman, Alhassan Yusuf, Griffin Yow, and Peyton Miller bagging the rest. Notably, winger Luca Langoni assisted three goals on Sunday afternoon. For the Revolution’s first-ever visit to Energizer Park, they’ll look to gain another three points against the Western Conference side and continue to climb in the Eastern Conference standings with a game in hand.
St. Louis CITY SC
15th in Western Conference (0-3-1, 1 pt.)
Last Result | 2-0 loss at LAFC
St. Louis are sitting at the bottom of the Western Conference with only a single point and single goal to their name. Yet to find a win through their first four games of 2026, CITY SC will be gunning for their first three-point result and hungry to put more goals on the board. Hosting the Revolution for the first time, New England visits Energizer Park following their initial matchup at Gillette Stadium on September 7, 2024, a game that saw both clubs walk away with a point in a 2-2 draw.
While St. Louis have struggled to open the season, they remain a difficult test. Their early slate has featured some of the league’s toughest opponents in Charlotte, San Diego, Seattle, and LAFC. After finishing 13th in the West last year, CITY SC will be eager to capitalize on a home matchup against an Eastern Conference side and finally gain some traction at Energizer Park.
KEY PLAYERS
Revolution winger Luca Langoni
Luca Langoni played a key role in the Revolution’s dominant win last Sunday afternoon, assisting three of the six New England goals. Langoni became only the second player in Revolution history, after Lee Ngyuen, to create three helpers in a single half. Mitrović said that one of his first priorities upon arriving was putting Langoni in more dangerous positions, and the winger has shown his pace on and off the ball is a consistent threat to opposing back lines.
Both Langoni and Mitrović emphasized that there is still more to unlock, but with Langoni now leading the team in goal contributions, he carries a renewed confidence as he looks to continue making a difference on the Revolution attack.
St. Louis midfielder Marcel Hartel
Marcel Hartel remains the lone St. Louis player on the scoresheet this season, his goal securing CITY SC’s only point in a 1–1 draw with Charlotte FC. Last season, Hartel was influential for the St. Louis attack, with 15 total goal contributions (9 goals, 6 assists).
With former leading scorer João Klauss now at LA Galaxy, the attacking burden shifts more onto Hartel’s shoulders. With CITY desperate for someone to convert chances, Hartel has both the history and motivation to step into that role. In front of their home crowd, Hartel will be eager to make a difference.
HEAR FROM THE TEAM
Head coach Marko Mitrović on what he expects from St. Louis CITY SC:
“They're a very well-coached team that has certain tendencies in games. St. Louis is team that wants to have the ball and control the game with the ball, also control transitions. I would say in their first four games, I don’t think that the results were a reflection of their performances. In my eyes, they had much better performances but didn’t get the results. We’re also going into [Energizer Park], where the crowd is great. St. Louis always has a great crowd. I think that they are trying to build a certain identity and the results don't support them. I would say that's [what I have learned from their] first four games, and I know that the crowd will be on their side. It's going to be a great challenge.”
Assistant coach Blair Gavin on five different Revolution players tallying goals last weekend:
“I think collectively what we’re trying to show is that everyone needs to be ready in those moments. And for us, it’s about getting into the right positions, whoever that may be. And in those moments, can we execute? And we did. Now, we’re going to keep trying to improve on that and keep it consistent.”
Midfielder Matt Polster on carrying confidence into this week's match at St. Louis CITY SC after securing the first win of the season:
“It builds confidence, but we don't want to get too high or too low. I think we look at the film, enjoy it. Nitpick a little bit here and there, [and look at] where we can do better. Bring up all those enjoyable moments, but also remember those moments where we could've done a little bit better in the next game against St. Louis.”
