FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – Since Marko Mitrović took the helm, the New England Revolution have been working steadily to absorb his vision and translate it onto the field. Through preseason and the opening stretch of the 2026 campaign, there have been flashes of the standards they’re striving to reach, but last Sunday’s statement win at Gillette Stadium felt different. With a six-goal outing and a resounding victory, this Revolution squad provided solid proof – not just to the fans, but to themselves – of what this group can be. Now, the focus for Mitrović is to carry that identity forward, harnessing the momentum of their first win of the season as they head to St. Louis CITY SC for a test on the road.
“There were many more moments in this game than in the previous two, that represent what we want to look like, game after game, in the long term. Something that I'm very aware of, and I'm very patient with, is the way we want to play,” Mitrović said following Sunday’s three-point result. “This game is a great reference point for the future, and something that we would love to look like week after week.”
Of course, it’s unreasonable to expect six goals from any team every time they hit the pitch, but for New England, the result was exactly the confidence boost they needed to believe they can win like that again.

“I said to my wife after the game, ‘You know, I've won a lot of games. For some reason, that one just felt so good, better than a regular win.’ It's always nice to get your first win of the season, to be at home, the home opener, and set the tone of what the fans should expect when we play at home,” said goalkeeper Matt Turner. “It's always really important. And then lots of guys wet their beaks a little bit – got a goal or an assist, played a big part, made a big tackle, a big block, a big save, or whatever it was. So, I think the feelings are really good.”
While it was fun to relish in a victory of that magnitude for a moment, the Revs know that it was just one game in a long season. For Mitrović, it’s about taking it day-by-day and focusing on the next task at hand.
“I have clarity with the coaching staff about what we want to look like and what the final product is. And I just know that we relentlessly have to work day-by-day. Something that I said to the guys, I congratulated them with a win, tomorrow they have the day off, but Tuesday we have to keep going,” Mitrović said postgame. “That's how I see it. My objective is day-by-day. We took most of today, and then we have to take most of tomorrow when it's our recovery day, and then we keep going.”
That energy was present on the training ground all week as the Revolution put in the work ahead of St. Louis, with Mitrović echoing throughout sessions to “take the most out of this training,” a reminder for players to constantly push for more.

The win may have offered a glimpse of their potential, but the group understands that growth comes from balancing celebration with critique. While they’ve embraced the positives, they refuse to overlook the details that still need sharpening.
"It builds confidence, but we don't want to get too high or too low. I think we look at the film, enjoy it. Nitpick a little bit here and there, [and look at] where we can do better. Bring up all those enjoyable moments, but also remember those moments where we could've done a little bit better in the next game against St. Louis,” explained midfielder Matt Polster.
With wind in their sails, the Revs will travel to Energizer Park for the first time in club history on Saturday for an 8:30 p.m. ET kickoff.
“You can't get too eager, but I think using that as a reference for us to continue to push is definitely helpful. Marko always says to remain humble, but we're never satisfied. I think that's also a good reminder, to understand that it's important to celebrate little things and the wins, but at the same time be humble about it and continue to be hungry,” said midfielder Brooklyn Raines. “We're just going to believe in ourselves, continue to stick to our principles, and then we'll come out with the result. I think it has been a huge mindset change from the first two games. We're trying to build off that, but I think win over Cincinnati has been major for the team, and we just want to continue to build off that.”
