FOXBOROUGH, Mass. – The New England Revolution Academy continued its 2021 MLS NEXT Fall season with the Under-17s and Under-15s making the trip down to Kissimmee, Fla. for matches against Orlando City SC Academy. The U-15s earned a 2-2 draw while the U-17s fell to Orlando, 4-1. Both the Under-19s and Under-14s were off from MLS NEXT competition over the weekend.
Additionally, Revolution II continues its quest to qualify for the USL League One Playoffs. Revs II dropped a 4-1 contest last Saturday at North Texas SC. Four Revolution Academy products started the match for New England – Tyler Freitas, Noel Buck, Justin Rennicks, and Damian Rivera – as did current Academy midfielder Esmir Bajraktarevic, making his 10th professional appearance since joining the club in August. Fellow Academy products Meny Silva, Hikaru Fujiwara, and Colby Quiñones also featured in the match for New England as substitutes.
Last week, U-17 goalkeeper Ryan Carney (2006 – Dunstable, Mass.) was called into the United States Under-17 National Team Domestic Training Camp in Chula Vista, Calif. from November 1-8. At the start of the 2021 MLS NEXT fall season, Carney has started eight matches for the U-17s and has posted a 4-4-0 record with one clean sheet under Head Coach Shalrie Joseph’s tutelage.
On Sunday, New England’s U-19 side will travel to Bridgeport, Conn. for an MLS NEXT Northeast Division matchup with Beachside SC. Revolution MLS NEXT & Alumni Highlights
- Forward Olger Escobar (2006 – Lynn, Mass.) scored his fourth goal of the season, tied for the team lead, to provide the scoring for the U-17s on Sunday. In six games, Escobar has four goals and two assists.
- Forward Edwin Flores (2007 – Wilmington, Del.) recorded a goal and an assist in a draw for the U-15s. Flores set up Peyton Miller for his 11th goal of the season before tallying his first of the season off a direct kick.
- Academy graduate Kevin Vang (2000 – Cranston, R.I.), scored the match winner for No. 18 Providence College over Big East rival UConn last Saturday afternoon.
